U.S. shares drop as Obama wants to raise taxes for the wealthiest

U.S. shares dropped as the President Barack Obama did not step back from his intent to raise taxes for the higher income earners in the nation.  The administration of Barack Obama rejected Republican plan to avert the fiscal cliff without raising taxes for highest-income residents only a month before $600 billion in tax increases and spending cuts are coming into force. Obama said there is no other option than to increase tax rates for the wealthiest, after he announced the republican proposal would not be able to resolve the fiscal cliff. The S&P dropped 0.2% to 1,407.05. Seven sectors out of then within the index edged lower with Communications and Utilities sectors loosing the most as the sectors declined 0.71% and 0.55% respectively.  The three sectors that slightly increased were Health Care, Oil and Gas and Utilities. The best performing companies were Netflix, Big lots and Apollo Group that surged 14.01%, 11.52% and 7.71%, respectively. Netflix surged to $86.65, as it signed a multilayer accord to carry Wal Disney Co. animated and live-action films. MetroPCS Communications tumbled 7.5% to $ 9.96, after seeing that Sprint Nextel Corp is not going to make a counteroffer.

Asian stocks reach 4-month high

Asian stocks rose to the highest level in four months on Wednesday, with Chinese equities climbing on hopes for stable economic growth. The MSCI Asia-Pacific Index excluding Japan gained 0.8%, Hong Kong shares added 1.5%, Australia's stocks jumped 0.4% and Japan's Nikkei Stock Average erased losses earlier to end up 0.4%.
