Being a forex trader can be quite a lonesome business. For many of us, we have to rely on ourselves. It is hard find a “trusted counselor or guide”, a so called "mentor" who can guide in us our journey to become consistently profitable traders. We all have gone through books, forum posts and blogs to find the most suitable mentor for each of us, haven't we? Aren't we looking for ...

  • A credible person? A person with evidence e.g. a proven and detailed track record (three years should suffice) that explain trading processes.
  • An inspiring person - This goes beyond the scope of just trading. It must include topics on goals, relationships and possibly faith.
  • A trustful and honest person. If you can't trust this person's judgment, it won't be possible to keep an open mind and to teach you so that you don’t blow away your hard-earned cash, time, and effort?

The forex market is unforgiving. This person should be able to make you understand the real-deal and tell you that forex trading ain’t easy business. A mentor's job is to prepare you and help you get through tough times. - To help you be your OWN trader.

I don’t believe that it is necessary to shell out boatloads of money for a good mentor. Some people find fulfillment at the mere fact in helping other people. Mentorship isn’t just a one-way street. You, as the student, stand to gain knowledge and wisdom under a mentor. But what’s in it for a mentor to put in the time and effort to teach students? For many, it’s the joy of seeing a student grow, and I think many share DoubleEcho's sentiment that a good mentor would only invest their limited time and resources into a noob who shows the potential for success and that they would work very hard for it.

With that in mind and if you’re seriously thinking about getting a GOOD trading mentor, I think you must first ask yourself, “Am I worth it?”
