US blue chips slid n Monday on weak manufacturing activity in the US. The New York manufacturing index dropped further in September while industrial and factory production contracted last month. Moreover, China growth concerns created additional pressure on the US blue chips index. The Dow Jones Industrial Average Index lost 0.30% to close at 13,553.10. Only three out of ten business sectors included in the index posted mild gains. The top-performers were telecommunication shares, with AT&T and Verizon Communications climbing 0.91% and 0.11%. Sending the US blue chips index lower, basic materials and industrials tumbled 1.30% and 0.85%. Alcoa and El du Pont de Nemours slumped 1.64% and 1.05% while 3M and Caterpillar dropped 0.21% and 1.27%.
