USD/JPY is showing a sharp bearish reversal following a prolonged bullish advance. The pair topped out just below the 160.00 psychological level, failing ahead of the 162.13 resistance, and was met with a decisive rejection. A large bearish engulfing-style daily candle has erased several weeks of gains in only a few sessions, indicating a meaningful shift in market sentiment. Price has broken convincingly below the 158.45 and 155.00 psychological levels and is now consolidating near 154.19, an area that aligns with a historical support/resistance zone and represents a near-term inflection point.





Volatility has expanded significantly, as reflected by the Bollinger Bands. After spending much of October through December trading along the upper band in a sustained bullish trend, price has now decisively closed below the middle band and is accelerating toward the lower band. This development typically signals exhaustion of bullish momentum and increases the probability of a deeper corrective phase or a broader trend reversal. On the downside, immediate support is located near 152.53. A failure to hold this level would likely open the door for a decline toward the 145.75 region, which served as a major consolidation base during August and September. On the upside, any recovery attempt is expected to face strong selling pressure near 158.45, with more significant resistance overhead at 162.13.
