AutoZone Q3 Fiscal 2026 Financial Results Overview

For the third quarter ended May 9, 2026, AutoZone reported net sales of $4.8 billion, an 8.4% increase compared to the same period in fiscal 2025. Net income rose to $641.5 million from $608.4 million a year earlier, while diluted earnings per share increased to $38.07 from $35.36. Operating profit also grew by 6.6% to $923.8 million.

Same-store sales for the company increased 3.9% on a constant currency basis. In the U.S., same-store sales were particularly strong, rising 4.1%, driven by growth in both DIY and commercial segments. International same-store sales increased more modestly by 1.6%, with performance in Mexico and Brazil remaining below internal expectations, though management believes the company is still gaining market share in those regions.

Profitability saw some pressure on margins. Gross profit margin declined to 52.2%, down 57 basis points year over year, mainly due to a 77 basis point non-cash LIFO impact, partially offset by other improvements. Operating expenses improved slightly to 33.1% of sales compared to 33.3% last year, supported by strong revenue growth and cost discipline. As a result, operating margin returned to just over 19% for the quarter.

In terms of capital allocation, AutoZone continued its share repurchase program, buying back 164,000 shares for $586.3 million at an average price of $3,582 per share. About $804 million remains authorized under the current buyback program.

Inventory increased 10.8% year over year, driven by growth initiatives and inflation, resulting in a net inventory per store of negative $107,000.

On store growth, AutoZone opened 82 new stores globally during the quarter, including 57 in the U.S., 20 in Mexico, and 5 in Brazil, bringing the total store count to 7,856. The company remains on track to open between 355 and 365 new stores for the full fiscal year.
