India's government has decided to allow foreign
individual investors to purchase directly domestic equities as the nation
attempts to stimulate capital inflows and lessen volatility in its financial markets.
The new law is expected to be approved by January 15. At the moment overseas investors
are allowed to invest in stocks only via participatory notes.
