Dow down 0.32% after GDP, FOMC statement

Dow plunged amid weak demand for riskier assets after disappointing US GDP reading. At the same time, Fed's monetary policy decision lifted US blue chips. Proving further support for the equity market, US non-farm employment jumped more than expected this month. The Dow Jones Industrial Average Index slumped 0.32% to close at 13,910.42. All but one sectors plummeted. The only gainer was consumer goods sector, with Coca-Cola and Procter & Gamble jumping 0.21% and 0.11%. Meanwhile, Boeing was the top-gainer, rallying 1.28%. Boeing reported a 14% increase in quarterly revenue. However, the aircraft manufacturer remained under heavy pressure amid safety problems with its 787 Dreamliner jets. On the downswing, oil and gas as well as basic materials sectors led losses. Exxon Mobil and Chevron sagged 1.19% and 0.65% on energy demand concerns after weak GDP figure. Among basic materials, Alcoa and EI du Pont de Nemours declined 0.90% and 0.69%.

Japanese equities advanced on positive data

Japanese shares were bullish on Thursday after preliminary industrial production showed an increase of 2.5%, compared to a forecast of 4.2%. Despite being weaker than forecast, the figure indicates a rebound in industrial production.
