Dow Jones gains amid rising optimism on U.S. budget talks

U.S. blue chips inched higher on accelerating pace of budget talks to halt the so called fiscal cliff and optimistic outlook for the Chinese economy as the economic data beat the analysts' estimates. However, representatives of both parties cautioned that an agreement on all outstanding issues is far from achieved.

The Dow Jones Industrial average advanced 0.1%, or 14.75 points, to 13,169.88. Technology and Industrials sectors performed the best by surging 0.64% and 0.40%, respectively, whereas Telecommunications posted the biggest losses by tumbling 0.51%.  Among the best=performing companies were Cisco systems, Microsoft Corporations and Hewlett Packard by adding 2.33%, 1.74% and 1.65%. Microsoft corporations Furthermore, the largest restaurant chain McDonald's Corp rallied 1.05% as its sales in November grew 2.4% globally. Home Depot Inc fell, down 2.19%, while Verizon communications and Bank of America declined 0.86% and 0.66%, respectively.
