Dow climbs on better-than-expected earnings

Most U.S. blue chips advanced, sending higher the Dow Jones Industrial Average after better than expected jobless data was posted and companies mostly reported corporate earnings that beat the estimates. The Dow Jones Industrial Average surged 0.3%, or 46 points, to 13,825.33. Only three out of nine groups declined with telecommunications pairing biggest losses caused by Verizon Communications that slid 0.5% to $42.59. Furthermore, Alcoa, the mining company, slumped the most by 1.20% to $9.04, followed by Intel Corporation that erased 0.8% and triggered a 0.01% decrease in technology shares. Meanwhile, Cisco Systems capped further losses in telecommunications group, as its shares rallied 1.9% to $21.02. Boeing Co advanced 1.4% to $75.32 after the U.S. investigation's leader said the battery fires are now prevented by the aircraft's design. Home Depot Inc., a home improvement retailer, gained 1.34% to $67.35 to pace gains in the consumer services sector that was 0.36% up.
