US blue chips inched higher on Friday

US blue chip index eased higher on Friday as encouraging US GDP data outweighed weak corporate reports. At the same time, uncertainty over Greece and Spain continued to create heavy pressure on global stocks. Meanwhile, traders remained cautious ahead of US consumer confidence data due on Tuesday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average Index rose 0.03% to end the week at 13,107.21. Five out of nine sectors included in the index posted gains. Telecommunications and technology companies rebounded after previous losses and pushed the US stock index higher. AT&T and Verizon Communications added 0.38% and 1.08%. On the upside were also lenders, with American Express jumping 0.56%. Sending the US blue chips  lower, consumer goods and services retreated. Procter & Gamble lost 0.90% after rallying on Thursday amid upbeat quarterly results. Wal-Mart Stores and Coca-Cola  sagged 0.28% and 0.13%.
