Swiss Producer and Import Prices Increase in March 2026 but Remain Lower Year Over Year

The Swiss Federal Statistical Office reported that the overall Producer and Import Price Index rose slightly by 0.2% in March 2026 compared to the previous month, reaching 99.6 points. However, despite this modest monthly increase, the combined price level of domestic and imported goods was still 2.7% lower than in March 2025.

Looking more closely at the components, the Producer Price Index edged up by 0.1% from February to 99.4 points, though it remains 2.4% below its level a year earlier. This monthly increase was mainly driven by higher prices for petroleum and dairy products. At the same time, declines in confectionery as well as meat and meat products helped to moderate the overall rise.



The Import Price Index showed a slightly stronger monthly increase of 0.3%, reaching 100.0 points, but it recorded a sharper year-on-year decline of 3.2%. The rise was largely supported by higher prices for petroleum products, oil and gas, clothing, basic metals, and semi-finished metal goods. In contrast, falling prices for pharmaceutical products, laptops, fruit (particularly pome and stone varieties), leather goods, footwear, transport equipment, and processed fruit and vegetables weighed on the index.
