USD/JPY is trading around 156.364, currently in a broad consolidation phase with a slight bullish bias, moving between key horizontal support and resistance levels. Immediate resistance is at 157.750, which acted as a ceiling in late December, while the pair is testing immediate support at 156.120, with stronger supports at 155.000 and 154.300, the latter being a major historical floor for the previous rally. Technically, the price is hovering around the 24-period SMA, indicating a lack of short-term momentum, while remaining above the 100-period SMA near 155.800, suggesting that the intermediate-term trend is still bullish. Recent price action shows small-bodied candles and dojis around 156.364, signaling market indecision as traders await a catalyst for a breakout.



Potential scenarios include a bullish breakout if the price closes above 156.650 and pushes past 157.750, targeting 159.000–160.000, or a bearish correction if it breaks below the 100 SMA and 156.120, potentially reaching 155.000 or 154.300, while continued consolidation could see the pair oscillating between 156.000 and 157.000. Price holding above it may lead to another attempt at 157.750, while a failure could trigger a deeper correction toward 155.000.
