September CPI Rises

Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers increased 0.3 percent on a seasonally adjusted basis, following a 0.4 percent rise in August. Over the past 12 months, the overall CPI rose 3.0 percent before seasonal adjustment. The increase in September was largely driven by energy prices, which rose 1.5 percent, with gasoline up 4.1 percent, making it the biggest contributor to the monthly gain. Food prices rose 0.2 percent, with food at home increasing 0.3 percent and food away from home up 0.1 percent. Core inflation, which excludes food and energy, rose 0.2 percent in September after 0.3 percent gains in each of the previous two months. Increases were seen in shelter, airline fares, recreation, household furnishings, and apparel, while motor vehicle insurance, used cars and trucks, and communication decreased.



Over the past year, the all items index rose 3.0 percent, up slightly from 2.9 percent in August, with the core CPI also up 3.0 percent, energy up 2.8 percent, and food up 3.1 percent. Overall, inflation continued at a moderate pace, with gasoline prices driving much of the recent monthly increase.

Pending home sales flat

Pending home sales were unchanged in September 2025 from the previous month and down 0.9% year over year. NAR's Lawrence Yun said contract signings were strong but still below healthy market levels, as low mortgage rates and record housing wealth couldn't offset a weakening job market. The next report, for October 2025, will be released on November 25.

Unemployment in UK rises

In October 2025, UK labour market data showed a drop in payrolled employees, down 93,000 from August 2024 to August 2025. Between June and August, the number also fell by 115,000. A first estimate for September 2025 shows another yearly drop of 100,000, bringing the total to 30.3 million. The employment rate for people aged 16 to 64 was 75.1%,
