Greek officials managed to find a missing CD that contains the names of roughly 2,000 Greeks with accounts in Swiss banks, paving the way for Greek government to prosecute tax evaders. Earlier this week, Greek finance minister Yannis Stournaras, said catching tax evaders is a top priority, as almost 30 nation's politicians and heads of departments are under investigation for corruption and tax fraud.
"No official, past of present, is able to give a convincing answer on what has happened with this evidence. But it is clear that checks were not carried out, when other countries were able to deal major blows to tax evasion," said Ta Nea, a daily newspaper published in Athens.
"I first learned of its existence from the newspapers," said Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras.
The Swiss blue-chip index SMI, a measure of the largest and most actively traded companies erased 0.14 per cent to 6,604.44. The broader Swiss Performance Index turned lower 0.18 per cent to 6,103.79.
