The history service in general seems to inhibit some sort of flood protection which bans IPs that request too much too often.

Can you provide information on where those limits are or at least what is considered a safe requests per timeinterval treshhold?

Are asynchronous methods also included in that rate limit check or is one safe from IP bans there?

There are no such restrictions.
Due to historical data migration on our servers there might be temporary problems in historical data loading.
