Hi.

I have been watching the point and figure charts as they are being plotted, and when plotting O's when the price is decreasing, JForex always places the bottom O in a box that hasn't been reached yet.

It fills in the boxes below the price instead of at the price.
It fills in the box before the even, (or flat) figure has been reached.

In the book "A.W.Cohen - Three Point Reversal Method of Point & Figure Stock Market Trading (eighth revised edition)", page 9.
"... If a stock has gone up from 32 to 39 - 7/8, the highest X in our column will be the 39 square. If a stock has gone down from 57 to 43 - 1/8 the lowest O in our column will be in the 44th square (It never made an even 43)."

In the book "DeVilliers & Taylor on Point and Figure Charting" In the edition published by Harriman House, 2000, on page 81.
"... Then weakness develops which is stopped at 20, or above the flat figure 19. This requires symbols to be placed in the 24, 23, 22, 21,
and 20 squares."

In the book "The Complete Guide to Point-and-Figure Charting" by Heinrich Weber & Kermit Zieg, Page 33.
"What constitutes Box 40 (or any other particular box) depends on your perspective:
1. If you are coming from above with falling prices, i.e. you are testing whether you can
fill box 40 with an O, then the low has to be equal or smaller than 40.
2. If you are coming from below with rising prices, i.e. you are testing whether the
box can be filled with an X, then the high has to be equal or greater than 40.
It is as simple as that.
"
Page 36.
" – Testing when a box can be filled
Assume we are testing if box 40 can be filled. In the case of:
– testing for rising prices the X can be drawn if the high is higher or equal to 40; or
– testing for declining prices the O can be marked if the low is lower or equal to 40."

So with JForex every single O column always has 1 extra O and subsequently every X column then has an additional X at the bottom, showing prices that were never reached. Remember that Point and Figure ignores price movements smaller than 1 box.

People wanting a 3 box reversal chart in JForex have to set the reversal to 4 boxes in order to get the correct number of columns, and remember that each column has a box in error at the bottom.

Cheers.
