Newbie Question - Automating Strategies

I've been using ActFx quite a bit and MT4 a little to write strategies and recently stumbled up on the jtrader app and noticed it has strategies.

Is there a way to automate strategies so they run behind the scenes without being logged into the jtrader app or does it have to be open the entire time?

What is the best way to run strategies with the least amount of maintenance, ie without having to reboot, check internet connections, etc, as in VPS or ...?
