Different trading results when trading live with DEMO vs historical tester

Hi,

I have a strategy which I have been running on more than one machine in DEMO trading mode, each using its own DEMO account and running on the same high-speed internet connection. I am seeing slightly inconsistent results between machines running at the same time. For example, on one machine 3 trades will be entered in a given timeframe, but on the other machine only 2 of the same trades are opened.

I have also seen differences in running the strategy in the historical tester, where all expected trades are entered according to the strategy - but when running live in DEMO mode, only about a third of the trades are entered.

Has anyone else experienced either of these situations? Could it be the quality of the DEMO data? Can I expect LIVE trading to be more consistent?

Thanks,
JW

Order execution depends on many factors. Orders that have larger allowed slippage and smaller amount are more likely to execute.

There are also hardware and network conditions that can influence this. For instance, network latency differences or trading activity on JForex servers.

Difference between Demo, Live, Historical and Test data is described here:

I use max slippage of 3.0 pips. Would you recommend a higher max slippage value?

It really depends on your trading strategy. Orders without any slippage are riskier.
