this is driving me crazy since 2.28 45 minutes to open jForex in average : the app freezes & remain idle @ workspace step (the first line under - the following warnings get displayed after the app stops the freeze - when it does...) : settings.d ] Workspace settings successfully loaded from file: /home/mika/JForex/Workspaces/LIVE/9C1633D64E952066BCD89F2D8C9FA1600B9B9019/Workspace.xml 25.10.2013 08:25:43.748 ATTENTION l10n.LocalizationManager ] Can't find resource for bundle com.dukascopy.dds2.greed.gui.l10n.a.a, key trader_top_up 25.10.2013 08:25:43.749 ATTENTION l10n.LocalizationManager ] Can't find resource for bundle com.dukascopy.dds2.greed.gui.l10n.a.a, key trader_top_up 25.10.2013 08:25:45.637 ATTENTION l10n.LocalizationManager ] Can't find resource for bundle com.dukascopy.dds2.greed.gui.l10n.a.a, key tree.node.plugins 25.10.2013 08:25:47.258 ATTENTION l10n.LocalizationManager ] Can't find resource for bundle com.dukascopy.dds2.greed.gui.l10n.a.a, key tree.node.plugins 25.10.2013 08:25:47.260 ATTENTION l10n.LocalizationManager ] Can't find resource for bundle com.dukascopy.dds2.greed.gui.l10n.a.a, key tree.node.plugins 25.10.2013 08:25:47.261 ATTENTION l10n.LocalizationManager ] Can't find resource for bundle com.dukascopy.dds2.greed.gui.l10n.a.a, key tree.node.plugins 25.10.2013 08:26:02.965 INFO impl.JDK14LoggerAdapter ] Authorized 25.10.2013 08:26:03.037 INFO r.d ] Loading server time 25.10.2013 08:26:03.963 INFO r.d ] Server time loaded<2013-10-25 02:56:03:447> 25.10.2013 08:26:09.603 GRAVE client.b ] Exception caught javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: SSL handshake failed. it takes about 10/15 min to open while idle for most of time (network : 0, processor :0) & sometimes it just doesn't open so I have to relaunch it... 45 min to 1 hour JUST TO LAUNCH JFOREXwhich was not happening with 2.26... Please do something, like revert to previous until you fix your next release this is f***ing incredibly annoying

First of all check out what kind of Java implementation you are using. By default Ubuntu has OpenJDK installed. So install Oracle Java 7.
Recently I used to be Ubuntu user. Now I use Linux Mint which is based on Ubuntu. Much better.

i found jforex under ubuntu to work on oracle java 6 way much better than on oracle java 7 : app becomes unresponsive for seconds if note minutes too often with 7, not getting that with 6
& before the latest update i had no problem... & changing OS for jforex is not in the planning right now

Hi,
You could try clean your java cache. Not the JForex platform cache, but java's own. Should be under ~/.java/deployment/cache/.
Also try to remove that Workspace.xml template, and try without it. Maybe delete the complete JForex folder from your home directory.
I know this is not ideal, as you might have some settings in there, but if this is not working at all, why not try with a clean setup.

i found the solution :
I launch the app first thing in the morning, then bathroom, breakfast whatever & i don't get frustrated anymore with jforex freezing 5 to 20 minutes on workspace setting step...
it's not ideal but it works

nice! However if you might consider finding it out what causes the issues, there are some further steps that might help you. For instance an 'strace' output, to see what is exactly happening in the background... But it is up to you...

Quote: strace' output ok but I don't know how to log that ? via jcontrol maybe ? & actually since just after i post this update & jforex 2.28.5, the app has freezed only a few seconds (launched it once only) + the console was responsive so it looks like it solved, we'll see next week happy we

What version of ubuntu are you using ? I had problems with 12.04 LTS. Live Jforex started on average after 5 attempts, strangely demo was starting normally. But since I upgraded from 12.04 they both work more or less ok.

yes LTS (i'm too lazy to upgrade & reset my development framework with stuff like xampp or the ide i use that needs full reinstall every 6 month.)
the worst issue i think i'm having is when it just hangs up my ubuntu session in the middle of a trade (too much frequent with oracla java 7, more rare with java6 but still happens here and then); this + the crazy launch is a hole in my pocket !
anyway since 2.28.5 app launch has become much faster & no session was hung so far; touching wood & waiting for 14.04 & also a better support for linux from Dukascopy which thanks to the utterly amazing & suicidal windows 8 ms have managed to come up with, will have to happen more sooner than later !

Quote: ok but I don't know how to log that ? via jcontrol maybe ? nope. command line: strace -r -o strace.log /usr/java/jre1.7.0_25/bin/javaws /tmp/jForex.jnlp For this, of course you have to have javaws in /usr/java/jre1.7.0_25/bin/ (replace it with your exact version). Same goes for the .jnlp file. Save it from the website and then modify the path. The above command will laucnh the JForex platform, while it is loging to strace.log of whatever happens in the background (system calls, file access, etc.). The -r options will put a relative timestamp in the output, so you (or Support) can find out where the hang/freeze is coming from. Not long ago (couple of months?) there was another user who suffered with Ubuntu+JForex. At the end we figured it out that Ubuntu's own IcedTea version of java implementation caused the problem. So I suggest to make sure nothing left on your system from this alternative java version. (Ubuntu is using the /etc/alternatives/ directory for all kind of java version. Check that also.) Hopes this helps.

following up : oracle java 8 + ubuntu 14.04 : no more failed launch, no more crash the ubuntu session = no more issue so far (maybe a little lag sometimes if editing orders, so not much to complain about) ! freebee for linux user if you haven't done it yet : desktop shortcut to launch jforex: * create a file named jforex.desktop on your desktop inside that file : [Desktop Entry] Encoding=UTF-8 Name=jForex Comment=jForex Exec=javaws -J-Djnlp.client.username=**** -J-Djnlp.client.password=**** https://eu-live.dukascopy.com/fo/platform/jForex %u Terminal=false Type=Application Categories=Application;Network; MimeType=application/x-java-jnlp-file;
save, then right click on it, properties, permissions -> check allow to execute as a program done
