1. Introduction:

Bollinger Bands are a volatility based indicator, developed by John Bollinger, which have a number of trading applications.
There are three lines that compose Bollinger Bands: A simple moving average (middle band) and an upper and lower band. These bands move with the price, widening or narrowing as volatility increases or decreases, respectively. The position of the bands and how the price acts in relation to the bands provides information about how strong the trend is and potential bottom or topping signals.
Bollinger Bands are used on all time frames, such as daily, hourly or five-minute charts. Bollinger Bands have two adjustable settings: the Period and the Standard Deviation. The Period is how many price bars are included in the Bollinger Band calculation. The number of periods used is often 20, but is adjusted to suit various trading styles.
2. what is consists of ? :

The Standard Deviation is typically set at 2.0, and determines the widths of the Bands. The higher the Standard Deviation, the harder it will be for the price to reach the upper or lower band. The lower the Standard Deviation the easier it is for price to “breakout” of the Bands.

Simple Thoughts on ForexTrading
1. Background
I would like to start with an apology that I am not an expert on the very intricate business of FOREX Trading. I am an ordinary man who got interested in this field a few years back and started with DEMO accounts and am still continuing with demo accounts because my country does not allow people to deposit international currency account in this area which they consider (rightly) as a loss making area. However getting involved in this field has enabled me to use my intellect and thus avoid falling into the vicious field of Dementia. Probably I may be the oldest person actively participating in this field at the age of 93 years.
Writing is a very good method of expressing your thoughts in the field. I am not an expert discussing and looking for technical words. Though technical analysis is good to guide you, I believe that world news is what really guides the Forex market.
Winning prices in competition was never my good fortune though I have come several times to the top rank of number one but in the end slid back to oblivion.
1. Why we Go to ForexTrading – use of Trends
Obviously winning trades and adding to your balance funds i…

The level of inflation:
Whenever the level of inflation rose whenever fallen value of the currency, and vice versa in the case of declining inflation, with high value and purchasing power of the currency. central banks monitor the movements of the local currency, due to the strong impact on the inflation path, where to maintain the stability of inflation is one of the priorities of the central bank of the state. Seeking countries that suffer from the low level of inflation to devalue the currency in order to support the rise in inflation towards specific levels, and this is done through what is known as facilitation measures, which in turn contribute devaluation.

A lot has happened lately on lira, and most of events dragged this currency down. When it comes to TRYJPY movement was especially strong as safe haven flows were strong lately. We can see the area of 33.0-33.5 to be a strong support for quite a some time, yet TRYJPY is making lower highs under the descending trendline all the time.
Main fundamental reasons for TRYJPY going downwards lately were:
  1. Brexit (omg, like it really does something to Tukey or Japan!).
  2. Terrorist attacks happening in Turkey.
  3. ISIS being close to Turkey.
  4. General disorder, plus coup etc.
  5. Some international quarells with Russia and US.
  6. Safe haven flows.
  7. Credit rating being cut.
  8. Many warzones are near Turkey.

In this article are described some concepts that can be used to optimize automated strategies.
The topics covered are:
  1. Minimizing cost
  2. Finding an optimal entry/exit within a short time period
  3. Using Big Data to optimize strategies
  4. Statistically evaluating a strategy

Minimizing costs

Costs arise from the spread and commission. Statistically, these costs are the only thing that will cause you to lose money from trades.
The spread is by smallest on the EUR/USD pair but even on this pair, it changes enormously throughout the day. A strategy should therefore follow the spread closely and only enter or exit positions when it’s at its smallest level.
The graph above shows how the average spread and its standard deviation evolves throughout the day. It is important to keep in mind that the spread may change between the moment when you place an order and the moment at which the position is really taken.
Finding an optimal entry/exit within a short time period
Trends are a central point to any strategy. If there were no trends, there would be no means to predict price movements.
It is hard to claim whether trends occur on larger time scales or not but is definitely the case for very s…

THE HOLY GRAIL OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
INTRODUCTION
creating software that comes close to mimicking human intelligence remains far off. But strides have being made in machine learning software that can gain abilities from experience. Companies in sectors from biotech to computing turned to these new techniques to solve tough problems or develop new products. The most striking research results in AI came from the field of deep learning, which involves using crude simulated neurons to process data.
Work in deep learning often focuses on images, which are easy for humans to understand but very difficult for software to decipher. However, the most advanced machine learning software must be trained with large data sets, something that is very energy intensive, even for companies with sophisticated infrastructure.
That’s motivating work on a new type of “neuromorphic” chips modeled loosely on ideas from neuroscience. Those chips can run machine learning algorithms more efficiently. That is the hope of an increasing number of investors who are turning to the science of artificial intelligence to make investment decisions. With artificial intelligence, programmers don't just set up compu…

In my previous article series “The Hunt for Liquidity” I argued why traditional technical analysis tools are useless and even more – doomed to fail because these are targeted by market movers in the liquidity hunt process. In this series I will explain some price action reading insights that will help to predetermine upcoming movements.
Market sentiment. Often technical sentiment and fundamental sentiment differs, as technical correction is exactly the case, when price moves against the fundamental sentiment. Market sentiment from technical stand point represents the formal trend and it is one of the main aspects to consider when reading price action (further in the article – PA). Make no mistake, sentiment of retail traders and their ongoing exposure produced by various retail brokers have little to do with the formal sentiment. Basically – when higher high (further in the article - HH) is made or long time consolidation is broken to the upper side – sentiment changes to bullish and vise versa. It’s important to understand sentiment (or the formal trend) correctly, because according to the ongoing sentiment – PA must be read differently and different patterns must be look for.

High probability forex trades; trading the news.
The last weeks we have seen some major forex market volatility surroundingeconomic news. Economic data tends to be one of the most important catalysts for short-term movements in the forex market and there is always some piece of economic data out there that traders can use to trade with a high probabilty chance of a profitable outcome. In this article I’ll share my method for trading that Breaking News!
First, let’s define the scope of this article. This trade strategy is basedon the magic of the “what if” scenario when breaking news hits the market. What if the news is bullish … , or what if the news is bearish … . If both sides of the “what if” scenario predict a profitable opportunity if the news goes that way, the breaking news can be traded.
Basically we wait for the market to react on economic news and try to estimate if the market direction stays the same, or reverses. Cause we are ready to trade both ways (either long or short), no real in depth knowledge of that particular market is needed. It can help you, but it is not required. ... It can also work against you; news and rumors are sometimes influenced by the big players

I traded once the knee-jerk reactions of the news releases... And still doo:) Only this time I have the whole technical picture in view and if Iclearly see what market movers are trying to do - I participate, if I have doubts of what is going on - better to stay out. Especcially tricky are fridays releases as friday in general - often postpones its developments for the next week..

You are correct Likerty, this trade setup can be very tricky and it seems to work best with some kind of broader view. Key is selecting the good trades and stay out of the ones where you have doubt. Less is more in this case :)

In every trending market, whether the trend is up or down, there are Buy Zones and Sell Zones which are divided by Trend Lines. Understanding the Buy and Sell Zones will lead to profitable trades.Let us take a look at the example below:The chart above represents the 4 hour of the EUR/AUD which has been in an uptrend. Above the Trend Line is the Buy Zone and below the Trend Line is the Sell Zone of the Uptrend. On the break of the Trend Line; it does not mean it is the end of the Trend; the market may be testing support levels with the Uptrend still in place, creating a pattern of consolidation or a new trading channel.Trend Lines are also support and resistance levels. They are powerful tools to successful trading. I am aware that everyone has their own style of drawing Trend Lines; whatever your preference the same principles and trading rules apply. You may now ask " So what happens when the market is within the Sell Zone of an Uptrend ?"There are a number of scenarios that could be taking place:. It could be a counter trend trade or retracement testing levels of support.. The market is exhausted from a huge run and is creating consolidation between support and resistance levels..…

Given the interest last month's article generated in the community, this month I tried to come up with a short term strategy that shares the same principles: price action only (no indicators), as simple as possible to trade (perfect for beginners and experienced traders alike), no ambiguity or subjectivity in it's rules, and, of course, reasonably profitable. This is a complete strategy, with entries, exits, money management and position sizing. ______________________________________► Time and volume in the Forex market Even though Forex is a 24-hour market, the volume traded is not the same all the time. The largest Forex trading centers are, in order, Europe/London, New York, and Asia/Tokyo, with the highest volume occurring when the London and New York sessions overlap (currently 13:00 to 17:00 GMT), even for currencies which are not native to these time zones, such as the Japanese yen, or the Australian dollar. On the other hand, the lowest volume (which usually leads to wider spreads and more erratic price moves and spikes) is seen after the close of the New York session (22:00 GMT), those two hours before Tokyo opens. So why is this information useful? Because any int…

Hi Everybody, such a strategy with a given parameters is NOT so profitable as advertised due to false breakouts. Please mind that main moves happend also during NY and TOK sessions. I have JAVA strategy and backtested it on different pairs very precisely with JForex tester. There are weeks without any trasaction because of SMA filter and market sideways. So it was popular strategy a few years ago and it is harder and harder scalp pipses this way although there are proftable periods... in general losing money.

Introduction In an earlier article I compared the length of trends on a daily time-scale between EURUSD and a randomized instrument only to find that the differences were marginal. The conclusion was that on a whole, trends on a daily time-scale don’t last rather than reverse. Using statistics ans data-mining, I look at intra-day trends and show that on certain hours of the day, prices tend to travel in trends while on others they tend to travel within a range. Range throughout the day The range per hour is the difference between the high and the low of the hourly period. This graph shows the average range for each hour of the day for EURUSD over 2.5 years of data. three peaks of activity arise, one at around midnight, one at around 08h00 and one around 14h00. These correspond to the peaks from the Tokyo, London and New York markets respectively. There is thus a verry strong correlation between volume and range.Intra-day trends cannot be analyzed with the classical definition that says a bullish trend ends when the price falls below the last bottom and a bearish trend ends when the price rises above the previous peak. It’s wrong to use this definition because the average range chang…

Are all days really the same? Of course not.
I think that too much data aggregates tend not to give effective information.
From Friday's closing to Sunday's opening of the market often there is a gap regardless of the volume.
In addition, the daylight saving time changes throughout the year and so is the time of the swap (when you have high spreads).
The first Thursday of the month, every day of the week (Monday, Tuesday, etc.) tends to be different from others etc.
However, every effort should be appreciated for the good purpose of sharing knowledge. I thank you for the article.

olga avatar
olga 5 Feb.

you're right, the title is misleading because the days are in fact only truly similar in terms of volume and therefore range. I should probably have included standard deviations to convince more. and I agree that certain days, about 1 on 10, are very different from the rest, as to what day of the week or month, this is new insight to me and I hadn't thought of looking there.

SpecialFX avatar
SpecialFX 22 Feb.

Am I right in saying that those peaks at about 21:00-22:00 (Average Range Volume, for example) are due to the roll-over at 17:00NY time, when the spreads temporarily widen? Interesting article :)

olga avatar
olga 22 Feb.

that's quite possible but enligthen me, are rollovers calculated at a specific time? Then do you mean that some people quickly change their position in order to take advantage of the difference in interest rates?

SpecialFX avatar
SpecialFX 26 Feb.

Yes, rollovers are calculated market-wide at 17:00 NY time, or 22:00GMT currently. Some traders might do that on purpose to take advantage of the interest rates, but what happens during the rollover is the simultaneous closing of the existing position at the daily close rate and re-entering at the new opening rate the next trading day (which starts at 17:00NY), this is done automatically by the brokers

The Top 3 Currency Trends in 2013 - Part 1 This is a 3 part series of the Top 3 Currency Trends expected to persist in 2013. Each part will be published on a weekly basis. 1. Yen weakness The new Japanese government led by Shinzo Abe has been pressuring the Bank of Japan into implementing further easing of monetary policy. The Yen has weakened considerably on Abe's pledges for more monetary and fiscal stimulus. Since the middle of November the Yen has fallen over 9% against the dollar. See the chart below. The USD/JPY traded at 81.40 on November 20. The blue line is the 20 day Simple Moving Average, the red line is the 50 day SMA. The pair closed at 90.07 on Friday. The Japanese currency performed even worse against the Euro. The Yen lost close to 15% against the Euro since November 20, or expressed in pips – 1555 pips. Look at the chart below. The Japanese Government and the Bank of Japan will issue a joint statement next week On January 15 the Japanese prime minister said that the BOJ should implement an inflation target of 2% per year.
