The personification of eternal youth, the ultimate boy who wouldn't grow up, Peter Pan made his stage debut in London's Duke of York theatre today back in 1904, a story line which was later expanded to a novel ''Peter and Wendy'' published in 1911. He was the brainchild of Scottish journalist-turned-playwright J.M. Barrie who created the character based on his older brother David. Poor boy had died in an ice-skating accident just the day before his 14th birthday. Peter Pan is careless and forgetful, portrayed as self centered, symbolising the selfishness of childhood, which he spends on the island of Neverland with fairies, mermaids, pirates, Native Americans and ordinary children. This popular character which even has statues in different countries, had featured in the variety of media, including films and TV series.
