The grand total

This year I got to travel and see places in the world I haven‘t been to before. My first trip this year was in January straight after my birthday. I went to Cape Verde for 10 days, islands in the West of Africa. It was my first time in the African continent and I was extremely impressed by the people, culture and food. I spent the first two days in the island of Sal, and then the rest of the days in the beautiful Boa Vista, the island which is known for its beautiful beaches. Santa Monica beach was ranked as the top 8 beach in the world and it got its name from the famous Santa Monica beach in LA which it reminds people of. The beaches and nature in the whole island is not spoiled yet as the tourism had only started there not such a long time ago and there are not that many hotels built yet but they are planing to make this destinations as popular as canary islands in next 5 to 10 years.

I have taken some tours through the island to see different beaches, villages and to visit the capital city of Sal Rei. There are still no proper roads built when driving to the villages, so you have to drive in Jeep. It was interesting to see how people live in Africa in my own eyes and it made me understand their lifestyle better and to appreciate more what I have. Most of the people still have no running water and in fact water is considered as the most precious commodity over there. There is no water deep underground, only in one place in the island where they managed to have a farm to grow some vegetables and fruit. Otherwise, they use the water from the sea which they desalt and then bring to the capital city and some other villages for people to purchase. There is a limit of how much water a person can buy a day. Also, the electricity in most villages is not available 24/7 only for a certain amount of hours. Most people do not own electrical appliances we all have, like a washing machine. They have to go to a special place in the city, purchase the water and the place where they can hand wash their clothes.

For the first time I have seen how bananas and coconuts actually grow. The garden of the hotel was full of coconut trees, never realised they are green.

I was really impressed by their art, different African masks and handmade souvenirs and jewellery.

Also, their music and traditional dancing was amazing.
Another place I got to go to was Liverpool, I had a weekend break there in June. Even though soon it is going to be 7 years as I live in Britain I still did not have much chance to travel around the UK. Liverpool is known for the Beatles, you can see their monument and museum there. It is also a harbour for cruise ships, I had a chance to see one of them departing. The city is really lovely and there are some nice museums and galleries to visit.

My next trip was in September, I went to see my family. I spent with them 10 days, mostly relaxing and spending some time with my niece and nephew. We went to Vilnius, the capital city, for a few days. I have not been there for a while, so it was really nice to have a walk through the city centre. Then, we went to this magical place, not too far from my home, it is called the pyramid of Merkine. It has been there for ages, but has been rebuilt probably around 15 years ago to what it looks like now. It is where people come to pray, meditate and to make wishes. There are stories of people who healed from serious illnesses after visiting the place. I must say it looks absolutely divine and it has such a calming and relaxing atmosphere. It was beyond my expectations and I can‘t believe I never went there before even though it is quite close to where I live. In fact, one of our previous presidents have visited this place before the election and made a wish to become a president, and guess what, it came true!
Then my last trip was to Morocco which I already talked about a lot but still did not have a chance to share all of my experiences. There will be some more blogs coming up though. It was an unbelievable 10 days, even though the weather may not have been as warm as expected, because it is the winter season over there, but it was full of different exciting experiences. I did not only get to see the Marrakesh city and its souks but also drove through the Atlas mountains for 10 hours in order to reach Sahara dessert where I spent a night with the local Toureg people, I am making a video of it. I had seen the biggest waterfalls in Morocco and some cute monkeys that are running free over there. I had ridden a camel for the first time and experienced a traditional Moroccan hammam. Then also visited the Kasbah ancient castle where they filmed loads of historic movies, including the Gladiator, the picture is below, and seen the botanical gardens of Marrakesh, as well as the Royal Palace. I met some great travellers from other countries as well which made the trip even more memorable.

Of course, I am really glad I have discovered Dukascopy which helped me learn a lot and meet some great friends. I wish I would have found it earlier, I think it can definitely help me a lot in trading. I am looking forward to trying all of the different contests, I just wish I had the time for all of them. I was surprised by how much support I have received from the cheerleaders and members of the community and have managed to be in the top 5 last month. I hope 2017 will be even a better year for everyone! Happy New Year!
